About Julie Sloan
Julie Sloan is Australia's leading workforce planning practitioner.
In 2010 Julie will release her second book 'The Workforce Planning Imperative' which builds on both the Standards Australia 2008 Guidelines on Workforce Planning ( of which she was the principal author) and her first book 'An Introduction to Workforce Planning'. In her 2010 book Julie reinforces the urgency of evidence-based workforce planning, the need for capability building and accredited training in the topic and gives the reader a comprehensive framework including tables, templates and proven methods for integrating workforce planning into normal business practice. She advises that executive focus/priority should now be on retention and recruitment of people in mission-critical job groups, understanding which of these are also defined as national skills shortage or at risk occupations and how these jobs are likely to be affected by globalization. She alerts executive to the emerging pressure for job redesign especially for at risk occupations. Managers need to produce evidence on the number and type of skills they need, when they need them and be very clear and strategic in the way they secure them. Internationally Julie has worked in the United Nations, Centre for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs, in the International Atomic Energy Agency and at the International Council on Social Welfare. She has also presented on the topic at the United Nations in New York. In Australia she has provided advice and support with strategic and operational Workforce Planning across a diverse range of organisations and business in the Commonwealth, State and Local Government sectors nationally, the Australian business community, across a broad range of industries and sectors and in the not-for-profit sector. Julie was the principal author of the first 'Guidelines on Workforce Planning' for Standards Australia launched in April 2008. Julie is the author of the book 'An introduction to Workforce Planning - are you ready for crunch time'? Published in 2008. Julie regularly presents as keynote speaker on the topic of workforce planning at Australian and international industry conferences and business forums and is well regarded for her ability to transfer her skills and knowledge on the topic in an interesting and straight forward manner. |
